About the survey: Special Olympics Canada has recently launched the Canadian Athlete Leadership Council (CALC), an advisory council comprised of athletes from throughout the country. The CALC gives athletes an opportunity to liaise with senior leadership within Special Olympics Canada as to what is happening in their Chapters, voice their opinions about important issues, and gain leadership training and experience.  The athlete chosen by SOC to represent Ontario is Matthew Fields from Toronto.

About Matthew: For the past 13 years, Matthew has devoted himself to SO, becoming a national ambassador for the movement in addition to his sport commitments. He has competed in track & field, soccer, swimming, golf and alpine skiing, showcasing his athletic abilities. In his first year of alpine skiing, Matthew qualified to attend the 2011 SOO Provincial Winter Games in Thunder Bay, where he won a silver medal and in his first year of golfing, he won a gold medal at the 2013 Provincial Summer Games. However, his greatest achievement to date was in March 2017 where Matthew won a gold medal in the Advanced Slalom at the World Winter Games in Schladming, Austria. He also enjoys tapping into his creative side, by playing guitar & drums and most recently participated in a week long drum camp this past summer with drummers from Santana, John Mellencamp and Dream Theater.
